Day 19 – Swift Current – Moose Jaw – wrong way oil flip warning

Km’s traveled: 225.7km
Overall average: 29.4km/hr

With a very short but nice sleep in a real bed since Drumheller, Alberta I was up and off to Moose Jaw to pick up my Air filter.

Along my route today I passed Hodgeville ‘The Coyote Capital of Canada’

Hodgeville, SK

Then I passed a sign for a place called Shamrock. Which you might think should be lucky…

Well I guess this is lucky

What was about to happen, I only have Joe (my next door neighbor) to thank for me not getting so hurt. I was doing 60km/hr coming up this hill and as soon as I reached the top there was a patch of oil from one of the oil trucks, I fishtailed, hit the side of the dirt and the bike flipped out from me and ended up backed up in the ditch with a completely busted tail light, as well as bent side bars on one side. Thanks to Joe for the side bar bag idea, It sure helped in a way I never thought of today. Considering I went down so hard, one of the bars actually dug a hole in the asphalt!

I wasn’t injured minus a few cuts on my knee. It took me a few minuets to get the scooter out of the ditch tho where it was so deep. Deciding to take a break once the bike was out. I knew I problie wouldn’t make it in time to the Honda in Moose Jaw before they closed. I found there number on the GPS and thought I’d call to see if they could leave the air filter somewhere hidden outside in case I didn’t make it in time so I wouldn’t be stuck there for the night. They said they’d find the part and for me to call back in 10 minuets. So calling Honda back I was now 30km outside Moose Jaw, when they inform me I didn’t order any parts from them. That’s when I realized it was Regina I had ordered the parts to which was another 60km’s from Moose Jaw. There was no way I was going to make it all the way to Regina tonight so I just stopped in Moose Jaw for the night.
